Council Tax Band Reduction

If you or someone in your household needs space for a wheelchair or an extra kitchen, bathroom, or special room (not for everyday living like a bedroom or lounge), and is essential for the disabled person’s wellbeing, you may qualify for a reduced Council Tax bill.

The bill may be reduced to that of a property in the band immediately below the band shown on the valuation list, eg the valuation list shows a band D, the charge will be reduced to a Band C. If the property is in the lowest band (A) then a reduction of 1/9th may apply.

These reductions ensure that disabled people do not pay more tax on account of space needed because of a disability.
